Nest of Slate-throated Whitestart

Finca Chaupi Chupa, east of Nayon, Quito, prov Pichincha 2250 m

The nest was found 8-jan-2009 destroyed. The adults were seen building the nest in december 2008 almost on the ground in some dead cut grass. That grass was removed by the farmer and the nest destroyed.

Note that this nest is in the interandean valley where this species is very rare and hardly known from (Ridgely&Greenfield 2001) and also high in altitude for this species.
